HanesBrands has been acquired by Gildan. We're excited about this new chapter and the opportunities it brings.

The information, goals and targets presented on hbisustains.com, including any public filings, statements, or press releases, were prepared prior to the acquisition of HansBrands by Gildan, which closed on December 1, 2025. Such information, goals, and targets may be modified and reconsidered by Gildan in light of the acquisition.

What are Science-Based Targets (SBT’s)?

PLANET STORIES

We are seeing increasingly urgent reports from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change showing that human influence has clearly contributed to the warming of earth’s atmosphere, ocean and land.

At the current rate we are burning fossil fuels, we are on a trajectory to increase global temperatures by more than 1.5°C within the next two decades. If temperatures continue to rise beyond that, it will cause significant global damage unless we take substantial measures to reduce emissions this decade.

Science-Based Targets (SBT’s) provide a framework for companies to set emissions reduction goals that are aligned to what the latest climate science shows is necessary to limit the worst impacts of climate change. It ensures companies are playing their part in substantially reducing emissions and holds them accountable to reporting progress against these goals.

An organization called the Science-Based Targets Initiative is a partnership between the Carbon Disclosure Project, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). SBTi defines the parameters and criteria for what qualifies as a legitimate SBT and validates corporate goals to ensure they meet these criteria. The criteria include the coverage and timeframe of the goal, as well as the minimum rate of emission reductions that need to be met.

In 2023, HBI’s near-term science-based emissions targets were approved by the SBTi. Learn more about our climate goals here.
